BARBARA is a four piece synth-driven indie pop project conceived by former stand-up comedian Ian McCarthy (He/They). BARBARA blends their love of new wave and post punk sounds of eras gone with a genre-bending love for dance music, hip-hop and hyperpop. The result is a unique mix of sharp abrasive beats with dreamy ear-worm hooks and lyrics thumping with black humour.

After their debut in 2024, BARBARA have quickly developed a reputation across Sydney/Eora for their unique take on 80s post-punk and early 2000s electro music, and high energy live performances. The release of BARBARA's debut self-produced and independently released EP 'In Light of Recent Events' in July 2024 picked up support from community radio across Australia and abroad with tracks garnering airplay on FBi Radio Sydney, RRR Melbourne, and KEXP Seattle, among others.

2025 is set to be BARBARA'S biggest year yet with a slew of shows across Sydney/NSW, the upcoming release of their second EP through Lazy Thinking Records and an East Coast tour to support its release.
